The Camera Butter Shock Mod is built for people who actually use their GoPro for action.
Made from ultra-tough Corning Gorilla Glass in an aircraft aluminum frame, the Shock Mod adds raised protective tabs above and below the glass to help take impacts before they reach the optical surface.
Those same tabs also act as a small lens hood, helping block stray light and reduce glare without entering the GoPro's field of view, even in 8:7 mode.
On a stock GoPro, the glass lens cover is one of the weakest parts of the camera. We designed the Shock Mod to make it the strongest.

Why protect the lens cover?
The removable glass on the front of a GoPro is there for a reason: it takes the abuse so the actual camera lens behind it doesn't have to.
The problem is that a conventional flat lens cover puts that glass directly in harm's way. The Shock Mod changes the geometry. Its raised aluminum tabs extend beyond the glass, giving the frame a chance to take the impact first.
If you ride, race, fly, ski, climb or put your GoPro anywhere it might hit something, that extra protection can make the difference between continuing to shoot and replacing broken glass.
Originally developed for FPV racing drones
The Shock Mod was originally designed for FPV racing drones, where GoPros can be travelling at over 100 km/h. Crashing into trees, concrete and the ground is part of the job. That is exactly the kind of abuse the Shock Mod was designed to protect against.
That same protection makes sense anywhere a GoPro gets used hard, from mountain bikes and motorcycles to motorsports, skiing and adventure filming.
Real impact protection
The raised tabs extend beyond the glass so they can take an impact before the optical surface does. This video demonstrates how that design works in practice.
No lens protector is indestructible. But the combination of Gorilla Glass, an aluminum frame and raised impact guards gives the Shock Mod substantially more protection than a conventional flat GoPro lens cover.
The impact guards also work as a lens hood
The shape has another advantage. The raised tabs block some off-axis light before it reaches the glass, acting as a small built-in lens hood.
That is particularly useful on a GoPro because the camera is constantly moving. A bright light source can go from outside the frame to right beside it in an instant. The hood helps reduce stray light physically, while the anti-glare treatment on the inside helps reduce reflections between the protective glass and the GoPro lens behind it.
Unlike a Circular Polarizer (CPL), the Shock Mod reduces glare without relying on a polarizing filter or requiring manual adjustment. It also avoids the uneven darkening CPL filters can produce on ultra-wide lenses and large areas of sky.

Leave it on the camera
The Shock Mod replaces the original removable GoPro lens cover and installs with the same twist-lock mounting system. There is nothing to adjust, and the tabs stay outside the image even in 8:7 mode.
Once installed, it simply becomes the protective glass on the front of your GoPro.

Installation
- Remove the existing GoPro lens cover by rotating it 90 degrees. Pulling slightly away from the camera while turning can help.
- Remove the protective films from the front and back of the Shock Mod.
- Place it on the camera with the raised aluminum tabs horizontal.
- Push toward the camera and rotate it 90 degrees until it sits squarely.
- Make sure the Shock Mod is seated correctly and flush with the camera. If it is crooked or can be removed easily, remove it and reinstall it.

The same Shock Mod design is also available with ND4, ND8, ND16, ND32 and ND64 filters for controlled shutter speed and cinematic motion blur.
FAQ
Does the Shock Mod replace the actual GoPro lens?
No. It replaces the removable front lens cover. The camera's actual lens remains behind it, protected by the Shock Mod.
Will the protective tabs show in my footage?
No. The tabs remain outside the GoPro's field of view, even in 8:7 mode.
Why is it tougher than a normal GoPro lens cover?
The optical element is made from Corning Gorilla Glass, but the biggest difference is the shape of the frame. Raised aluminum tabs extend beyond the glass so the frame can take impacts that would otherwise land directly on the optical surface.
Can I leave it installed all the time?
Yes. The Shock Mod is a clear replacement lens cover, not an ND filter. Install it and use your GoPro normally.
