steady cameras, careful framing, and footage that doesn’t involve hitting anything.

Shock Mods were designed from the start with one assumption:
When flying FPV, you will likely hit things.

So the filter has to survive that reality, not just look good on a camera.

DESIGNED THE WAY FPV ACTUALLY WORKS

Shock Mods aren’t just “stronger ND filters.”
They’re built differently because FPV demands different tradeoffs.

When Shock Mods hit the ground, branches, gates, or concrete, the protruding parts of the frame absorb the initial impact.
That keeps the glass recessed and protected instead of being the first thing to make contact - which is exactly how most ND filters fail.

In practice, that means something simple but important:
you don’t have to stop flying every time you tap something.

Instead of landing, swapping a cracked filter, and trying to recreate a moment that’s already gone, you can keep flying and keep shooting - without ruining a line that only happens once.

This isn’t about babying gear.

GLARE PROTECTION

FPV cameras don’t stay pointed forward.

They swing:

  • up into bright sky during pull-ups and recoveries
  • across the sun during rolls, yaw spins, and split-S moves
  • through fast, uncontrolled angle changes where glare shows up instantly

That’s why Shock Mods do something no other ND filters do:

  • Anti-reflection coating on the inside of the filter, which reduces internal reflections and glare when the camera swings toward bright sky
  • Integrated hood geometry that physically shields the lens from stray light during those moments

That means fewer blown highlights, better contrast, and footage that has less chance of washing out halfway through a move.

This isn’t a photography feature.
It’s a fix for real FPV footage problems.

A quick reality check

FPV breaks things.
No ND filter is indestructible, and if you fly long enough, you’ll break one eventually.

COMPATIBILITY & SETUP

Shock Mod ND filters are designed for compatible with:

  • GoPro Hero models 9-13, including the 11 mini and Hero Bones.
  • GoPro lens detection on the Hero 13
  • Most cage-style mounts
  • Most TPU mounts (as long as they don't fully surround the lens itself)
  • Mounts that connect to the GoPro "fingers"
  • Media Mod

Not compatible with:

  • Dive case
  • Mounts that obscure part of the lens
  • Some TPU mounts with a full lens surround

Shock Mods don’t change how you shoot - they just survive the way you shoot.

INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the existing lens/cover by twisting 90 degrees parallel with the camera. Pulling away from the camera slightly may help.
  2. Place the Camera Butter ND filter on the camera with the metal bars on the filter oriented horizontally
  3. While pushing down towards the camera, twist the filter 90 degrees until it is square on the GoPro. If there is a Camera Butter logo on the filter, make sure the logo is oriented at the top of the camera if you are using a Hero 13 Black.
  4. Make sure that the filter is seated correctly and is flush with the camera. If it is crooked or can be removed easily, remove and re-install.

TORTURE TEST (YES, REALLY)

“This is not how we recommend using ND filters. But FPV happens.”

Shock Mods use Gorilla Glass, an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, and a design where the frame takes the hit before the glass, which is why this kind of abuse doesn’t immediately destroy them.

WHY SHOCK MOD EXISTS

Camera Butter was built by someone who flies FPV and designs gear the way FPV actually demands.

Shock Mods exist because FPV puts very specific stresses on ND filters that generic designs don’t account for:

  • repeated impacts
  • constant camera movement
  • harsh, unpredictable light
