ND filters with the ultimate impact and glare protection!

Camera Butter Shock Mod ND filters are built for people who actually use their action camera for action. The signature tabs help stop impacts from reaching the glass and act like a small lens hood to reduce sun glare.

Why our Shock Mod ND is different

  • Tabs protect glass from impacts (helps stop hits from reaching the glass)
  • Less broken glass means the GoPro's delicate internal lens is safer
  • Tabs act as a mini lens hood to reduce the amount of sun glare in your video
  • Tabs are not in the field of view and do not get in the way of your video, even in 8:7 mode
  • Anti-glare coating on the inside to further reduce glare
  • Nano-coated to repel water, oils and dirt

Installs in seconds - simply remove the original lens cover with a twist and then twist on the Shock Mod ND!

Why you won’t go back to regular ND filters

  • Protection by design: most ND filters only control light; Shock Mod adds tabs designed to take hits before they reach the glass.
  • Glare control: small hood geometry plus an anti-glare interior coating helps reduce glare in harsh sun.
  • Build quality: a tougher build means less babying your gear and fewer cracked filters.
  • Coatings that matter: better coatings improve optics and make the filter easier to keep clean (water/oil/fingerprints).

Twist-lock install (GoPro lens-cover style): remove the original front lens cover with a twist and then twist on the Shock Mod ND. Installs in seconds and stays secure during real use.

Compatible with Hero 13 Automatic Lens Detection

GoPro Hero 13 recognizes a Shock Mod ND16 filter via automatic lens detection

Unlike other 3rd party filters, Camera Butter filters work with GoPro's Hero 13 automatic lens detection system, taking the guesswork out of getting the very best cinematic settings. The camera will automatically tell you when you need a different filter and automatically adjust settings so you can focus on what you do best - getting the best footage possible!

Note: The GoPro Hero 13 does not support auto lens detect with an ND64. The ND64 will show up as an ND32, but will still function correctly.

Not just tough — premium optical quality

Shock Mod ND filters are built for impact resistance, but they also feature cinema-grade optics: ultra-clear glass, minimal color shift, and high-quality coatings.

See our filter quality comparison.

  • Cinema-grade optics for ultra-clear footage
  • Minimal color shift for natural-looking color
  • High-quality coatings that repel water, oils, and fingerprints (easy to clean)

Made from durable aircraft aluminum and ultra tough Corning Gorilla Glass, the Shock Mod ND filters have tabs that stick out from the top and bottom that help stop impacts from hitting the glass. Also, the tabs act as a small lens hood to reduce sun glare.

Proof (impact test): made from durable aircraft aluminum and ultra tough Corning Gorilla Glass. The tabs are designed to take impacts that would otherwise hit the glass directly.

FAQ

Does this replace the GoPro lens?
No. It replaces the front lens cover while installed (what most people casually call “the lens”).

Will the tabs show in my footage?
No. The tabs are not in the field of view and do not get in the way of your video, even in 8:7 mode.

Which strength should I start with?
ND16 is the common choice for sunny daytime. Use ND32/ND64 for very bright environments (snow/water/midday); ND4/ND8 for lower light.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Remove the existing lens/cover by twisting 90 degrees parallel with the camera. Pushing towards the camera slightly may help.
  2. Place the Shock Mod ND on the camera with the metal bars on the filter oriented horizontally.
  3. While pushing down towards the camera, twist the filter 90 degrees until it is square on the GoPro and the Camera Butter Logo is at the top of the Camera.
  4. Make sure that it is seated correctly and is flush with the camera. If it is crooked or can be removed easily, remove and re-install.
